Le sport bientôt sur nos ordonnances ?

Traitement par le sport : pas encore dans les mœurs
Nous évoquions récemment sur inforeeducation.com l’utilisation des jeux vidéos, et plus particulièrement de la console Wii en matière de rééducation suite à un accident vasculaire cérébral. Je vous propose aujourd’hui de continuer un peu dans la même voie avec un article très intéressant de L’Express sur le sport à but thérapeutique.
A beaucoup en entendre parler, les améliorations des traitements médicamenteux et leurs fortes retombées médiatiques nous feraient presque oublier les vertus curatives du sport. Pourtant l’activité physique, qui se décline en moult pratiques, permet de répondre efficacement à un très grand nombre de pathologies pour lesquelles on prescrit à l’heure actuelle quasi systématiquement des médicaments.
Une réponse à bon nombre de pathologies
« L’activité physique est un multimédicament », résume le Pr Duclos: « elle fait baisser la tension, le taux de glucose, ainsi que le niveau du mauvais cholestérol et des triglycérides. A l’inverse, elle dope la production d’hormone de croissance et le potentiel cognitif de l’individu. Résultat: la liste des pathologies que le sport aide à combattre est longue, des problèmes cardio-vasculaires au diabète en passant par les insuffisances respiratoires, l’obésité, la dépression, l’hypertension, l’ostéoporose, l’arthrose et les maladies neurodégénératives. Il pourrait bien, aussi, réduire les risques de rechute en cas de cancer du sein et du côlon. »
Selon le Dr Christophe Delong, chef du service de médecine physique de l’hôpital Sainte-Périne à Paris, « Dans un pays qui a tendance à survaloriser le cerveau au détriment du corps, la recherche sur les bénéfices du sport est encore peu développée ». Pour son confrère le Dr Bruno Sesboüé, qui exerce au CHU de Caen, « Les médecins prennent conscience que l’activité physique soigne et il faut les former à ce nouveau type de prescription. Ils ne peuvent plus se contenter de vagues conseils généraux, du genre faites un peu d’exercice. Ils doivent apprendre à préciser quelle activité et à quelle dose. »
