Prévenir un AVC : l’accident ischémique transitoire (AIT)

Nous avions déjà parlé des AVC (accident vasculaire cérébral) à l’occasion de l’article « La wii aiderait à la rééducation des personnes victimes d’AVC« . Nous allons aborder ici le sujet des AIT (accidents ischémiques transitoires), qui constituent des signaux permettant de prévenir un AVC dans près d’un tiers des cas.
Qu’est-ce qu’un AIT?
Un AIT est une forme légère d’AVC qui peut durer de quelques minutes à 24 heures maximum. Il ne laisse pas de séquelle cependant l’apparition d’un ou plusieurs AIT multiplie le risque d’AVC par 9,5 comparé à une personne du même âge et du même sexe n’en ayant jamais eu. Si vous êtes victime d’un AIT, un AVC peut survenir ensuite entre 48 heures et 3 mois.
Les symptômes de l’AIT peuvent être :
- paralysie d’un membre ou d’un côté
- baisse brutale, unilatérale de la vision ou vision double
- troubles de la sensibilité d’un membre ou d’un côté
- troubles du langage, difficulté à parler
- troubles de l’équilibre
- troubles de la compréhension
- fortes douleurs crâniennes soudaines (pour certains AVC hémorragiques)
Que faire si je suis victime d’un AIT?
Si vous êtes victime d’un AIT, consultez très rapidement votre médecin ou appelez le 15 (samu). Plus vous prendrez en charge rapidement votre AIT, plus vous aurez des chances d’éviter l’AVC. Et n’oubliez pas que les symptômes disparaissent rapidement mais demeurent une mise en garde à prendre au sérieux (aussi bien par vous que par votre médecin).
Pour diminuer les risques à long terme, adoptez une alimentation équilibrée, une activité physique régulière, évitez le tabac et l’alcool, le tout afin de prévenir d’hypertension artérielle et l’excès de cholestérol dans le sang.
